Lion fish live in warm waters and have trouble surviving through cold winters. Their average life span is about 15 years. Lion fish are venomous, not poisonous. Venomous organisms use a specific apparatus like spines or teeth to inject their toxin. Poisonous organisms, on the other hand, require their victim to ingest or absorb the toxin. Native to the reefs and rocky crevices of the Indo-Pacific lion fish catches it's prey by hiding in a crevice in the rock or coral and then ambushing it's victim as it swims past. The lion fish then corners it's prey with it's large fins before swallowing it whole. Lion fish only really come together to mate.
